We Have Arrived in Houston

Late yesterday afternoon we parked under the I-10 Freeway that skirts by the Houston Convention Center.  95% of our booth goodies have been unloaded and stashed inside.  The walls are up and models pinned up but the rest is in disarray.  We head in this morning to complete setting up. On our last shopping day heading into town we found another adorable little animal we fell in love with.  Tiny 11 week old Snickle Britches ‘owns’ one of the vendors at an antiques mall we found.  I think she was the most fun at the store even though we found a couple of goodies we could buy…..she was NOT for sale!  Snickle Britches is a Pie Bald mini Dachshund – so cute. At our last stop before arriving in Houston,  Tina found a bird house she liked….luckily there were 2 so I could have one too!  These are HUGE and perfect for our gardens at home.  We are partial to ALL things Birdie! Here is a photo of stuffing them into Lucy’s back garage.  ...

Some “Shopping Therapy” in The Hill Country

We started our day off well with a quick stop at a  Snowflake Donut Shop in Ozona, Texas.  Yummy! Our first stop was early so we continued to Hwy 16 heading to Bandera.  Nice country road but we took the truck route because a couple of years ago we stayed on 16.  The road became super twisty and skinny I was terrified at the hair pin turns with the motor home.  Yikes! Quick stop in Bandera but shopping was nil.  Headed back on Hwy 46 toward Pipe Creek.  Stopped for the second year at County Accents….fabulous place….mark it on your driving itinerary!  Beautiful antiques from old mercantile shops plus lots of other goodies. The garden is full of metal critters from Mexico plus other yard art made from vintage stuff.  Restoration of many antique pieces is completed in the “Country Store”.  Another great building to explore.   We had a delicious Mexican lunch in the attractive small house behind the Country Store.  Wa...

On The Road to Houston

We left early to give ourselves plenty of travelling time to the BIG International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas. This gives us many days to drive Lucy and allow any down time for unexpected stuff.  So far the cab’s air conditioner STILL blows only warm air after several trips to the fix-it place at home.  The generator worked perfectly as usual the first morning at 5:30 am but not since.  Now we have had to go outside, open the cubby and manually turn it on.  NOT cute! We are stopped for the night at a picnic area on I-5 just east of Ft. Stockton, Texas.  The view of the countryside is beautiful with sand, tumbleweeds and very large and flat plateaus in the distance.  Semi quiet with the freeway next-door.   One of our favored type of “camp-outs”. Yesterday in Arizona we stopped for a stretch at a really nice rest area near Tucson.  Perfectly groomed with river rock dry creeks and gravel around the Palo Verde trees.  They ...

LOTS of Quilted Dogs at PIQF

So many pampered pooched in wonderful quilts at the show this year!  I have had a great time finding them and photographing for you to see. This little furry critter looks an awful lot like our Abigail, Brenda’s little dog who comes to our shop everyday.  Now Brenda will have another project to do and make a wonderful portrait of her furry child. An entire family of pets – a quiet way to show them ALL off in the house. A sweet little pup, maybe a Jack Russell, in a bike basket having a  ride.  We do love our terriers! Good job to all the terrific designers and quilters at PIQF!

ScareCrow and Pumpkins in the County

Before leaving for Santa Clara and Pacific International Quilt Festival I drove down one of our rural county roads and found LOTS of Pumpkins and a few funny Scarecrows. A Beautiful garden filled with Pumpkins and Scarecrow yard decorations.  This one is a silly Crow with clothes.  Wonderfully HUGE pumpkins too. More lovely Giants on a farm wagon awaiting the perfect shopper to take them home. Autumn is so colorful and cheerful.  Make your Scarecrow plus some pumpkins and crows for your house…this one will last until next Autumn and longer! Enjoy the Season!
